Our pathways printed there
on the grey, wave-washed sands
will never form the crossroad

Shadow waves to shadow
Across the harbour mouth
The tide it stands between us
Footprints running to the south

in the river swimming hole

ANNIVERSARY

FRUITS OF HIS LABOUR

I’m turning the sod
in the garden plot,
overgrown these past

I’m turning the sod
one spadeful at a time,
knowing the harvest

Keep your heart in check
Send across the open space

That waits beyond a distant shore
And to the garden I shall tend
And settle there for a week or more.

fingering the keyboard

after a fall of rain,
the dust had settled on the dirt road
leading up the valley;
there were flowers in a vase on the table
speaking a quiet welcome home.
