HOW IT IS

Sometimes I want the return
of my possibilities that have been
eroded by the years,
narrowed by the failing light,
exhausted by the long road;
other times I am content with
the folding of my arms,
the smoke from my pipe
drifting heavenwards,
a little mid-day slumber.
